What We'll Cover
In this Publishing Academy talk, poet and editor Jazmine Linklater will draw on her eight years at Carcanet Press, alongside her current work as a regional editor at Corridor8 and a practising poet, to demystify the editorial side of poetry publishing.
Jazmine will discuss her route into publishing, how an independent poetry press operates, and how poets are commissioned and developed. She’ll walk through what the editorial process actually looks like — from first reading to publication — including timelines, common editorial interventions, and how editors and poets work together in practice. The session will also explore the realities of poetry as an industry today, and whether being a writer helps or complicates editorial work.
Ideal for aspiring editors, poets seeking insight into the publishing process, students, and anyone curious about how poetry books are shaped behind the scenes.
Please note this event has two tickets - free for publishing academy members, and a one off fee if you are not a member.
